The
Common Facilities (CF) of ACTREC include one reverse osmosis,
three Elix-10 and six Milli-Q plants located on different
floors of the Centre, for providing deionised, clean and pure
water for all the experiments, and ice making machines to
ensure a constant supply of ice for users. Two X-ray developing
machines and a room fitted with a biohazard hood for bacterial
work are also amongst the centralized CF.
In addition, a laboratory dedicated to radioactive work,
which is equipped with biohazard hoods, centrifuges and radioactivity
monitors, provides facilities to handle 32P and 125I. CF technicians
ensure that radioactive waste is segregated and dispatched
to BARC for disposal at regular intervals. They also monitor
the work area for spills, thus providing a safe working environment
for radioisotope users. The small dedicated team of technicians
undertakes distillation of solvents and phenol for all the
users of the Centre.
